A warm cup of coffee is the best way to wake up, but did you know that you can incorporate your used grounds into other parts of your morning as well? This week, we’ll share some ideas on how to reuse grounds after brewing the perfect cup. These three uses for beans are a simple starting point for anyone looking to get creative with their beauty routine.
Face & Body Scrub
Used coffee grounds work wonderfully as a gentle yet effective exfoliant. To make a scrub, mix a teaspoon of olive or coconut oil into a handful of coffee grounds and gently rub in small circles on the area you’d like to exfoliate for five to ten seconds. Rinse off with water, wash with soap, and follow up with your regulate skincare routine. If exfoliating in the shower, the oil will make the floor slippery, so be careful to not slip.
Cure for Dark Circles
Fatigued? If lack of sleep has left you with dark circles under your eyes, fear not! After you’ve brewed your morning cup, you can use coffee grounds to energize your skin and give yourself a radiant glow. Simply mix used coffee grounds with some aloe gel or your favorite facial moisturizer, refrigerate for five minutes, then apply to your under-eye area. Once applied, leave the grounds on for ten minutes while you drink your daily cup of City Girl Coffee! After ten minutes, gently wipe away the grounds and, once again, follow up with your regular skincare routine.
*Tip: Take care to not get the mixture in your eyes. If you do, rinse with cool water immediately.
Hair Tint
If you’re looking for a way to naturally darken your hair color without using dyes, consider using coffee! The darker your desired color, the stronger your brew should be. For the darkest tint, cold brew a dark roast and apply the concentrate directly to your hair. For a lighter tint, weakly brew a light roast. Regardless of how you brew your coffee, be sure to cool it to room temperature or colder before applying to your hair. After wetting your hair, put on a shower cap and wait 15 to 30 minutes depending on the level of color you’re looking for, then rinse with cool water and apply conditioner as you normally would. Repeat with each wash to maintain the tint, or as you see fit.
Stay Brew-tiful!
Whether including coffee as a body scrub, cure for dark circles, hair tint, or your own creative use, we’re sure you’ll love the addition of beans to your beauty routine!
